Let’s start with some history:
In 2020 the average temperature across the Earth was 1.25°C higher than pre-industrial levels, which mean it was dangerously close to the 1.5°C threshold needed to avert a climate catastrophe as per the Paris Agreement (limiting global warming to well-below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C)
A report published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) states that greenhouse gas emissions (CO²) need to be reduced by nearly half over the next 11 years to limit the most harmful impacts of global warming.
These impacts are including increased extreme weather condition as storms, flooding and life-threatening heat; extinction of animals or the spread of insect–borne diseases and other viruses. If we don’t start acting now, our living conditions will get worse!
Why do we as Combased care about sustainability?
A sustainable way of operating our company is essential and tightly connect to our personal & private way of living as all of us deeply care about our surrounding and what kind of impact we have on this earth.
As we are polluting the world with running a business, we have the obligation to offset the pollution to save our planet. We want our children to explore and live in a world that is at least equal if not better than the world we are in today.
How does Offsetra operate & what does offset CO² mean?
Offsetting CO² means that Offsetra removes xx tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (t CO²e) from the atmosphere or the avoidance of xx tonnes of emissions by enabling substitute measures for polluting businesses.
Offsetra has 3 ways to offset CO²:
- Carbon sequestration via reforestation: Forest protection in Brazil, restoration of mangrove landscapes in Myanmar.
- Renewable energy: Enable wind energy in India by replacing polluting fossil fuel power plants.
- Methane capture: Capture methane from a dairy-farms in California (Methane’s global warming potential is about 21 times greater than that of CO²). Yes, we are talking about farting cows.
